Burke Olsen is publisher of the Deseret News. His previous roles at Utah’s longest-running company included head digital officer, general manager and content director. Before his career in journalism, Olsen was focused on the intersection of technology, content and marketing. His prior work spans organizations in the for-profit and not-for-profit sectors, including the Pew Research Center, the Salt Lake 2002 Olympic Winter Games, Southern Virginia University and two PR firms. He received a bachelor’s degree in communications from Brigham Young University and did graduate work at The Johns Hopkins University.
Olsen is on the board of directors for the News Media Alliance — the largest trade association for newspaper and magazine publishers. He also serves on the Salt Lake Chamber’s Utah Community Builders advisory board. With a broad background in technology, design, production, journalism and business operations, Olsen brings value to every stage of the publishing process. Olsen’s focus as publisher is growing the Deseret News audience on existing and emerging platforms.
