Read Today is a company-wide initiative on a mission to help every child in the state learn to read. Reading is one of the most important foundational skills a child can learn for success throughout life.
Led by KSL Anchor-Reporter Nadine Wimmer, Read Today provides support to like-minded organizations and initiatives across the state. Our goal is to instill a love of reading among all children whether through books, a mentor, or a helicopter landing at their elementary school.
Read Today launched a tutoring program in the Fall of 2011. Partnering with Read Graduate Succeed, United Way, PTA, government officials, businesses, educators, and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints we provide one-on-one tutoring in schools for children not yet reading at grade-level. Year 1 produced incredible results with more than 2,000 children at grade-level reading. Each year the numbers keep growing. We are now serving over 3,500 students in over 100 schools.
With a success rate of 79 percent, we will continue for the 2015-2016 school year, with hopes of an even greater impact.
Read Today is true to the DMC mission of improving lives one child at a time through positive programs and models.
